Help Build the Spaces and Experiences That Bring Exhibitions to Life The Anchorage Museum is a museum of people, place, planet, and potential. Through exhibitions, storytelling, art, science, history, and community engagement, we create experiences that connect people to Alaska, the North, and the ideas shaping our future. As the Exhibitions Technician , you will help transform exhibition concepts into engaging physical environments for visitors. Working as part of the Exhibitions team, you'll support the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of galleries, exhibit components, and display environments throughout the Museum. What You'll Do Exhibit Fabrication & Construction Assist with the construction and fabrication of exhibition environments, display components, and special projects using a variety of tools and materials Support finish work and detail work that contributes to high-quality visitor experiences Build crates and prepare artwork and artifacts for safe handling and transport Assist with exhibit upgrades, repairs, and fabrication projects as needed Gallery Preparation & Finishing Prepare gallery spaces for new exhibitions, including wall repair, patching, painting, and finishing work Perform wall painting, spray finishing, and surface preparation for exhibitions and displays Help maintain high presentation standards throughout Museum galleries and exhibition spaces Coordinate with contractors and project teams during exhibition changeovers to ensure timely completion of work Exhibition Installation & Maintenance Assist with the installation and deinstallation of temporary and long-term exhibitions Support the placement of artwork, artifacts, exhibition furniture, and displays Perform routine maintenance and repairs to exhibition environments and exhibit components Help strike exhibitions and salvage reusable materials, equipment, and supplies Shop Operations & Team Support Maintain clean, organized, and safe workshop, warehouse, and storage areas Manage and organize supplies, hardware, tools, and materials needed for exhibition projects Operate Museum vehicles and equipment to transport materials, furniture, and exhibit components Support a culture of safety through proper use of tools, equipment, lifts, and personal protective equipment Who We're Looking For We're seeking a dependable and skilled technician who enjoys working with their hands, solving practical challenges, and contributing to projects from start to finish. You may be a strong fit if you bring: Experience with commercial, construction, shop, theatrical, or exhibit-related painting and finishing work Knowledge of wall preparation, wall repair, spray finishing, and general surface preparation techniques Familiarity with basic carpentry, construction, fabrication, or related trades Experience using hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely and effectively Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship Ability to interpret project instructions, drawings, work orders, or construction plans Strong organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with colleagues, contractors, and partners Commitment to workplace safety and responsible use of equipment and materials A valid driver's license and ability to travel locally as needed Forklift, lift, warehouse, installation, or museum experience is helpful but not required Why Join Us?
