JPS offers 18 residency and fellowship programs, including the largest family medicine residency in the nation.

Job Summary:
The Department of Internal Medicine is currently seeking a Palliative Care provider to join our team. The Department of Internal Medicine provides specialty services across the continuum of care at JPS. We currently
have over 100 providers who work in a variety of different locations including the Main Hospital, Ambulatory Surgery Center, and our Community Medicine Clinics. Our specialties include; Cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Critical Care, Endocrinology, Infectious Disease, Dermatology and Rheumatology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive palliative care consultations for patients with serious, chronic, progressive, or life-limiting illnesses in inpatient and outpatient settings.
Assess and manage complex physical symptoms, including pain, dyspnea, nausea, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and other distressing conditions.
Develop individualized care plans focused on improving quality of life and aligning treatment with patient goals and values. Lead and facilitate goals-of-care discussions, advance care planning, and end-of-life decision-making conversations with patients and families.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including nursing, social work, chaplaincy, case management, rehabilitation services, and specialty physicians to coordinate patient-centered care.
Provide expert guidance regarding prognosis, treatment options, and transitions of care.
Participate in family meetings to support shared decision-making and address psychosocial, emotional, cultural, and spiritual concerns.
Coordinate care across healthcare settings to ensure continuity and appropriate resource utilization.
Complete and maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation in the electronic health record.
Educate patients, families, healthcare professionals, residents, and medical students regarding palliative care principles and best practices.
Consult with attending physicians and specialists regarding symptom management and complex care planning.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, program development, and performance measurement activities related to palliative care services.
Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.
Provide on-call coverage and consultation services as assigned.
Support hospice referrals and collaborate with hospice agencies when appropriate.
Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based palliative medicine practices and participate in continuing medical education activities.

Required Qualifications:
Education:
Current Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) degree from an accredited school of medicine.
Residency and/or Fellowship training within Palliative Care

Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in the State of Texas
Board Certification or Board Eligible.
