Description: Powder Coat Technician / Powder Coater $25.00-$27.00hr DOE

Job Summary: The Powder Coat Technician is responsible for applying powder coating to metal parts and components to provide a durable and high-quality finish. This role involves preparing surfaces, operating powder coating equipment, and ensuring that the coated products meet quality standards and specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Surface Preparation:
o Prepare metal parts for powder coating by cleaning, degreasing, and sanding surfaces to ensure proper adhesion.
o Inspect parts for defects or contaminants and perform necessary pre-coating treatments.
2. Powder Coating Application:
o Set up and operate powder coating equipment, including spray guns, and curing systems.
o Apply powder coating to metal parts using electrostatic spray techniques to achieve an even and consistent coat.
o Adjust equipment settings, such as voltage and airflow, to optimize coating quality and efficiency.
3. Quality Control:
o Inspect coated parts for coverage, thickness, and finish quality to ensure they meet specifications and standards.
o Identify and address any issues such as uneven coating, defects, or color inconsistencies.
o Perform thickness measurements and adhesion tests as needed.
4. Equipment Maintenance:
o Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of powder coating equipment and work areas to ensure proper functioning.
o Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the supervisor and perform minor repairs as necessary.
5. Safety and Compliance:
o Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling powders, chemicals, and operating equipment.
o Adhere to environmental regulations and guidelines for handling and disposing of powder coating materials.
6. Documentation and Record Keeping:
o Maintain accurate records of coating activities, including batch numbers, coating parameters, and quality control checks.
o Document any issues or deviations encountered during the coating process and report to the supervisor.
7. Collaboration and Communication:
o Work closely with other team members and departments to ensure timely production and meet quality standards.
o Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding production status, issues, and any required adjustments.
8. Continuous Improvement:
o Identify opportunities for improving the powder coating process and overall efficiency.
o Stay informed about new techniques, technologies, and best practices related to powder coating.
Qualifications:
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in coating, painting, or a related field is a plus.
• Experience: 1-3 years of experience in powder coating or a similar finishing role.
• Skills:
o Proficiency in operating powder coating equipment and understanding of coating techniques.
o Ability to prepare surfaces properly and apply coatings evenly.
o Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finishes.
o Good problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot coating issues.
o Basic math skills for measuring coating thickness and mixing powders.
Work Environment:
• Manufacturing or coating facility with exposure to powder coating equipment and materials.
• May involve standing for extended periods and working in a controlled environment.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and move materials or coated items as needed up to 50 weight lbs.
• Capable of performing tasks that involve repetitive motions and manual dexterity.
