The Town of Newington invites qualified candidates to apply to be its next Town Planner. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced planner to serve in a leadership capacity for the Town and play a key role in Newington’s future. Located to the immediate southwest of Hartford, Newington is a close-knit suburban community of roughly 31,000 residents that is known regionally for landmarks such as Cedar Mountain, the Olympia Diner and Mill Pond Falls, the smallest natural waterfall in the United States. Newington is also proud to be an active member of the Capital Region Council of Governments. Among other duties, the position serves as the staff liaison to the Town Planning and Zoning Commission, administers the Town’s zoning regulations, and acts as the primary point of contact with the development community. The position will lead efforts to implement the recommendations of the recently-completed Town Center Master Plan, for which Newington was recently awarded a $2 million grant from the State Bond Commission. The position is responsible for leading efforts in administering a number of smaller, but still high-profile grants, including a Safe Streets for All grant and a joint trail planning grant with West Hartford. The Town Planner also serves as the Department Head of the Planning Department and supervises a four-person department.
